showing young people who were vital in electing president obama in 2008 and 2012 are now turning their backs on him of the critics say it may have a lot to do with these emphasis on health care. this after a brand-new fox poll shows a majority of voters under the age of 35 want the president and congress to focus more on the economy and jobs while 17% say they -- the focus should be on health care. now, the managing editor for "the hill." bob -- >> hi, greg. >> 35% of americans are

against health care. the young people are truly against health care. what do you make of that? >> i mean, these are troubling numbers for the president. let's face it. he had a very difficult 2013. he is trying to come back with his state of the union address. young people and old people will look at their situation. if they are not satisfied and if they don't like their job and if they don't feel they have a lot of opportunity to move up, then they are going to blame the president. whether that is fair or not is political reality. the president repeatedly tried to move health care and made the argument that obamacare would help the economy. a lot of people are frustrated and the administration is frustrated. every time they take a step forward on the economy another bad jobs report comes out. this is a problem especially when you think about it in the 2014 context. they need those young people to show up in the mid-term elections. that usually doesn't happen. >> it is not just young people, bob, but democrats are
12:52 pm
actually m coming out against obamacare. increasingly democrats who oppose obamacare, does that doom it? >> you know, i don't think it dooms it. but remember democrats wanted the single payer system. they wanted the all government solution, and there were not the votes for that. even though the democrats controlled the house and senate in 2009 and 2010. i think a lot of them are saying i told you so. of course then you have other people who are looking at the disastrous rollout. it was a disaster. there is no doubt about it. whether it is republicans who said consistently that this program had not work and now you have the disastrous rollout and you are going to get bad poll numbers out of that. >> you also have a lot of people increasingly who are losing their health insurance. and now they are forced on to

the obamacare website. what about those people? >> absolutely. that was a big promise as you know and if you like the health plan you can keep it. that has proven to be false. when the administration says those plans weren't good enough, well that i think unsettles a lot of the people who bought those plans. they decided those plans were the best for them. were they opulent plans? of course not. they were cheap plans and catastrophic plans so if they really had a problem, a major health problem they would be somewhat covered and they were somewhat cheap. now many people will pay higher premiums and they don't like that. that's understandable. >> increasingly also you have people who are an employer-sponsored plan. and those are looking jeopardized as well, aren't they? >> that is going to be one to watch over the next year. the administration delayed the employer mandate and are more employers going to decide they

changes? >> democrats are anxious. there is no doubt about it. the big theme of this year and it is whether it can retain the senate. that didn't look as good as around the government shutdown. a lot of democrats want to fix it, but the white house has been resistant to even some senate democrats who are in tough re-elections who want a legislative change. that has lead to friction, greg. >> it is no secret that there are more democratic seats up for grabs in the election in the midterms. how do you handicap this? >> it all depends on what we are talking about in the fall. if we are talking about an economy that is improving, then that is going to be very good for democrats. that's what democrats are hoping for obviously. if we are talking about obamacare and how it really hasn't fixed the uninsured problem and how people are
